Title: rhubarb the end is nigh

When do we stop picking our rhubarb, can't remember as I now have a proper big plant on my plot.   :drunken_smilie:

I finished at the end of July.

The problem is the oxalic acid builds up in the stems and doesn't half give the guts a turn over.

So as the year progresses I cut off more stem with the leaf.

It also gets a bit chewy after July.

Regards

Bill

Hi Cornykev,
The most important reason not  to harvest rhubarb too late is so that the energy produced by the leaves can in the last few weeks of the growing season can be stored in the crown. The more strength the crown has for the spring, the better growth you will get throughout the next season
