My Easter Cactus have got lots of ripening seed pods. I pollinated some flowers this spring as i wanted to try growing a few from seed in the hope I might get one that is a different colour from the ones I already have. I wasn't sure how long the pods take to ripen but I burst one open a few days ago and it had lots of dark seeds inside. I didn't realise there would be so many, there's going to be way more than I can use. I put the seeds on damp kitchen paper to germinate and I can already see a couple of little roots forming :icon_cheers:
Anyone else fancy trying to grow Easter Cactus from seed, there should be lots to go around? I think it's a slow process as they can take a few years before they flower, but they don't really take up much space.
The parents are white, pink and orange flowered. The seed pods are all cross pollinate and the seeds might be a mix of any of them. I don't know how the colours will come out, if some colours are more dominate or if you get different shades?
Hi Jb
I have had success in the past with barrel cactus seeds so if there is pod going put me down for one or two.
Thanks in advance Tg
Will do :happy7:
I don't think I have your address, if you could pm me with it when you have a minute.
I'm sending some out today. Anyone else for seed pods?
Do you still have some? I will pm my address if you do.
Yes lots, they are still in the little pods on the plants ready to be picked. Send me your address.
