Title: Growing grapes outside and in
Post by: davee65uk on August 09, 2015, 20:16:26
I have a brick shed with a clear plastic roof. I would like to grow grapes on the sunny back wall. There are already grapes growing outside but these are small. Would it be possible to grow an indoor grape by either (1) Growing the roots outside and then taking the stem indoors via a gap in the bricks or a gap in the roof space OR (2) clear out a hole in the brick floor and plant roots there.

Go for option 1 - much easier. :happy7:

Planting a large fruited variety would greatly compliment the small fruited types you have now. :sunny:

Definitely option 1 ... the roots will get more natural water that way - but the plant will be sheltered and fruit will ripen better and get protection from birds.

Thanks. I'll go with that suggestion.

The grape vine at Hampton court Palace has been grown on option (1) for more than two hundred years! It's the longest vine in the world.
