We've got a committee who goes around asking anyone if they want to be on the committee, but no one gets voted on by a show of hands, is this right?
Hello Sallybee.
Welcome to the site.
I am assuming your site is self managed in which case it would be normal for the committee are voted on at the AGM follow nominations a being seconded. However depending on your constitution it may be possible for further members to be seconded on, or if an existing member resigns to be replaced without the need to be voted on.

Thanks for your reply, just to make clear this is done before AGM, and not at AGM, it's just here's the new committee and you have to like it or leave.
Sometimes it is difficult to find people willing to serve on committees, so I have known organisations which sort things out before the meetings or there would be no committee at all.
We often suss out likely candidates prior to AGM, but all posts are open to everyone, every year.
There is a difference between making things work smoothly by asking if people are prepared to be on the committee, or being undemocratic and just picking your friends/ or people who will back you up.
We too do rally around and do 'carefully' ask around if there is any interest within members to become committee members...that's before AGM. Sometimes it is makes meeting goes much smoothly when there is some idea who could be voted in.
