Probably a dull question, but does it seem quite early for my Desiree spuds to be flowering? Think I planted them about the third week of April. I normally compare their progress with the local farmers' potato crops and none of those are at the flowering stage yet.

John
Some of mine are flowering as well, actually before the first earlies. I am hoping it is a good sign that they will produce something before the blight sets in.
Its just a thought John, but in comparison with the farmer my guess is you chitted your potatoes and you placed them in the trench where as the farmer wouldn't have chitted his and he will have planted them with a mechanical planter, so this is likely to give you a head start!
Many thanks Digeroo and Tee Gee. The feedback is greatly appreciated.
Appreciate that watching the farmers' crops is not conclusive but my plot is on private land and so its all I've got to compare it to. Also, I do find it a useful reminder when I see them watering their spuds:)

John
Mine are too, and like you thought it was early. I'll wait until the foliage has died back before lifting them.
Many thanks Flighty. Reassuring to know that I'm not alone:)
I noticed the same last night, must be a connection!
My Desirées aren't flowering yet, but I planted them late.
