Title: My tomatoes have buds!
Post by: Silverleaf on May 15, 2015, 21:32:12
I just thought I'd tell you, because I'm really pleased. :)

I haven't had much time to spend in the garden this week (family emergency) and today was no exception, but I spotted the beginnings of flowers on my Costoluto Fiorentino, Katja and Latah plants today. It's always a good moment when that happens. Maybe more will be visible tomorrow!

Well not quite yet ;), but here too.   Mrs Lindsey and Blaby Special are in flower and there are loads of buds on Prairie Fire too.  A joy to behold and yes - a promise of good things to come  :sunny:

There's nothing like a fresh home-grown tomato, still warm from the greenhouse.

The internet says I should be able to harvest toms at the beginning of August, but as I have a few very early varieties I might not have to wait quite that long, hopefully.

Being at the other end of the season to you all, my hot house tomatoes are flowering and fruiting well. 12 plants each with 2 leaders and about 1000 fruit with more flowers coming. been harvesting for 3-4 weeks now. The plants survived our polar blast last week with a -3.5C frost on the Thursday morning (they don't usually come until July but the records say this hasn't been our coldest May day). It did so much damage on end of season plants by burning the leaves off figs, pistachios, grapes, arrowroot, bananas, kiwi, beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and basil.
This week we are back to autumn again.
