Have lots of King Edwards chitting away ... and wondered if anyone could tell me what sort of yields I could expect from one plant?
(1 kg, 2kg?)
:)
Depends!!
Last year, we got 9lb/plant with Picasso.
I thought King Edwards had been 'super-seeded' (!) and were no longer around. Isn't it's up-grade called...C,,,,,, something? Have to check that out.
Nigella, I think I read somewhere that the average harvest for a maincrop was around 1.5 kilos?? 3lb? I wrote it down and have conveniently lost the notepad in my recent move :-\
The 'good Doctor' suggests 2.5lb.
You mean Cara, Ken?
Yes, that was what I was trying to bring to mind, Tim. People buying King Edwards are actually buying Cara, the name stayed for sales reasons but Cara is the improved King Edward I believe.
I think it may be Avondale/Cara you're thinking of, although even they should be sold separately.
Thanks.
Mine were sold as 'king edwards' ... but maybe they are different?
Don't suppose it matters too much ... looking forward to roast dinners with my own tatties !
hm..well-for what its worth-here in vegetable county-caras are much bigger than king eds...caras are paler and have fewer features(spots and bumps) then eds-they are both available as eaters but, come to think of it-i havent seen any k.e's for sakle as seeders.....
Yes, King Edwards are certainly still sold as seed potatoes - we have some chitting away - came from local supplier.
Hello Nigella,
I grew King Edwards last year. The yeild was only about one kilo per plant, mainly because the slugs had quite a few of them.I'm givivg them another try this season because I really enjoyed the survivors.
 Best of luck to you.
