While digging out phygelius (I hope!) I dug up hundreds of crocosmia bulbs. What is the best way to replant these, and how do i tell which are the newer bulbs? I know they are supposed to be rampant, but mine seem only to have been rampant under the soil!
They form a "neckless" of corms. Only the top most corm will grow, but it benefits from some energy store from the rest of the chain (one formed each year), so as well to replace them all, rather than just the current on.

Really like them but they do not grow here, cannot tell you how many I have planted never to be seen again, presume it depends on the soil.
There's a clump in my garden that I basically ignore, that doesn't seem to mind my horrible clay.
Thanks for the replies. When the weather improves I'll get some of them replanted.
