Hi all!! ;D
Its been such a long time since I posted on here!!
But had to tell you all the good news!! Finally me and my partner visited our new allotment on Sunday and spent the whole day down there - A long six hours, but very enjoyable time. The neighbours seem very friendly (and very good at gardening judging by their plots!!)
It was hard work as the plot has not been worked for a while and is basically a wildlife haven at the moment - grass and weeds everywhere! But we cleared and dug a area about 3.0m x 7.5m!! Doesn't sound much but it was hard work.
Really enjoyed it and hopefully if the weather is nice will be down there again this weekend!!
Wuhoo!!
Nobbs!!! :P
Well done. A sense of achievement is a very pleasant feeling.
after a saturday spend gardening - my lower back muscles hurt - so do my leg muscles, for some reason.
i never considered digging stressful for legs, but so it is :)
sense of achievement is good - slept like a baby.
looking forward to seeing piccies of your plot, nobb(l)y ;)

Good stuff Nobbyman. Congrats! After a first good days digging on the plot, I discovered muscles that had lain dormant for many a year. And everyone grows bubby, even if they don't like it, after all, makes great compostable matter, and the stems can be plonked in brassica planting holes to reduce the risk of clubroot, and I'm sure the leaves can be used for something....altho they are poisonous....is that it, an insect repellant....
Wow thanx E.J - So much that one plant can do................what do I plant next?
Any advice anyone?
Nobbs xx
I've actually been to my plot today and done some work! This is the first time in ages since I hurt my back. My back was awful this morning but I still went down and it got better as the day wore on :) I chucked some cardboard down, followed by manure and I've put black sheet mulch over it and tucked the edges under. I shall put my spuds under it tomorrow. I must remember to cut some slits in for them to grow through ;D
My OH was putting a roof on our second hand shed so we should have somewhere to store stuff very soon.
Hi Wardy!!
Well done!!
Send your OH over to my lottie afterwards - loads he can do there!! :D
Hows your back now - painful I'll bet
Nobbs xx ::)
Ta Nobbyman My back was ok. It got better and better as the afternoon wore on. I didn't do very much though as don't want to get back to where I was on Mother's Day. Ouch ouch ouch.
All being well am going back tomorrow to get some seed taters in. They've got a bit soft and wrinkled but so am I ;D ;D
My lotty neighbour gave me leeks and spring cabbage for tea. All is well with the world :)
he he lucky you! ;)
Back on the plot today to get some early spuds in (Arran Pilot) using no dig method. Hope it works cos I'm planting Desiree's tomorrow. Watered the manure as it was rock hard and I had to chip bits off!
Came home and soaked in the bath with a couple of lagers. Had sausages for tea. ;D
Couple of largers!!
I'd rather soak with a couple of ladies!!
Nobbs xx
Back on plot to day to move my manure off the lotty road where it's been sitting for weeks until my back got better. Felt crap this morning but again back getting better as day wore on, except for about the last hour but I kept going as the pile was getting smaller. I managed to shift it all. Hurray. My husband is still on the plot putting up the second hand shed and it's nearly 7.00 pm - such dedication.
I'm going to log off now and get a well deserved glass of wine. :)

A friend of mine soaks the leaves of bubby in water for a couple of days or so and then uses the water to spray on aphids

Hi all!!
Just got some Saxon seed potatoes today!!
Chitting them at the mo!!
Does anyone know when I should plant them - is it too late or early now!!
Nobbs xx
It's a second early and it says in the catalogue it should be planted from early March onwards. I'd get them in - weather permitting o course ;D
