Life can be sooooo weird and wonderful sometimes.. :icon_cheers:
This morning I took my dog for her usual walk and to meet her new dog friend that we met last week. And while our dogs were running around having fun, I got to talk to the dogs owner. She started telling how she has lived on the same neighbourhood all her life....and then was allotments mentioned...."oh yes, my dad used to have 2....and when he passed away I carried on with one of them..." ....after while I turned out that he had the exactly same 2 plots that I'm currently doing!!!!! She was able to tell me all about the history of different things that been built on there...and what fruit trees were planted and where... :drunken_smilie: For her delight I was able to tell that most of them are still growing strongly.. :icon_cheers:
Few years ago I took some samples of the apples to apple day event in Harrogate..and they were able to say "it might be 'this' variety.." This woman still has got her dad's old gardening notes...he used to write down everything he planted and grew ...and now she is going to dig out what varieties those trees are....!!!! :icon_cheers:
I just had to get this little story out of my chest....I'm so excited about it all... discovering some local history is so interesting and no doubt we have many more chats ahead once she has dug those old note books out. :icon_cheers:
That is amazing and I hope you get to find out loads.
Just goes to show at times it is a small world
Wow, that's fantastic, what a chance meeting :toothy10:
Hope there is lots of information in his notes and what fun to maybe finally get names for your apple trees.
It's a small world!
What a great coincidence - lovely story - thanks for sharing with us. No doubt, come autumn, she will get a taste of the apples too, that should bring back some memories for her.
How wierd and wonderful at the same time being able to plug into the history of the land. Almost like uncovering the history of Stonehenge!
How amazing that he kept such good records.
thats amazing !
