Actually, I'm not missing them, though they are missing this year from our neighborhood for some reason.
Last year I was out early every morning spraying the wretched slugs with dilute ammonia which didn't hurt the plants but shriveled up the slugs. This year they, for some reason, haven't shown up (yet). All I can think of for their absence is perhps there was a cold snap after a warm period that froze them. Does that make sense? There is no way I could have killed them all with my ammonia since in the past they've marched in from the woods and over-wintered under litter and mulch.
I know where they are. They are fed up with the ammonia and moved over here. :BangHead:
I planted out 12 dwarf beans and had to use slug pellets since the previous lot completely disappears. Ended up with 18 huge ones the next morning.
Pellets never seemed to help here, often washed away in downpours. Maybe next year will be your turn to have a cold snap that zaps them if that's what killed them here. Of course with the cold snap, we now have no cherries or crab apples either.
