Title: Loch ness blackberry. Rampant runners. I need to remove plants
Post by: strawberry1 on June 16, 2014, 14:32:18
4 year old and produced lots last year. Two plants and tied to freestanding posts and wires. I cut out fruited growth and tie in new growth every winter. Now very short on flowers and both producing runners which are popping up far too often and several feet away. I am 66 now and cannot see me coping with these plants so want to be rid of them this summer, before I get another whole seasons growth. Runners popped up near apple trees and in a neighbours plot, I don`t want this. I have decided that they are going so have today cut off the new shoots that I would normally be tying to the wires for next year

What is the best way to remove the plants? Do you think that cutting down and digging out will be enough? or do I need to use a powerful weedkiller. My instinct is to go and start cutting down now as it will be easier, I am a short female so need to keep it as easy as I can, I am ok to do battle with it
