I have been booked to have a course of injections in my eye.
I have diabetes & it is affecting my eyes.
Has anyone on here had these injections & have they helped, do they HURT much. The thought is enough to put me off.
Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

Hello Rosebud, my moms had several courses of injections.
Not as regular now, looks like they have stopped the bleeding.
She hates them, like you say just the thought of it is horrible, but not much pain.
She carries on as normal when she gets home from the Hospital, but shes like that.

Hi Mary, you may remember my late sister had to have eye injections (for a different reason..Macula) she was so nervous and only agreed to have the injections when I said I would travel to Kent and go with her, she had several more and was quite ok. I have a friend (90 years old) and she has been having the injections on a monthly basis for the past three months, she told me nothing to worry about. Hope this makes you feel easier, good luck. Rosebud, there is a man on our site who has macular degeneration and
he has had many injections into his eye. He says the thought of it is much
worse than the reality. I know it's silly to tell you not to worry because anyone
would. I'll ask him if he has any tips when I next see him.
I agree Mary, I am sure the thought of it is so daunting. I think 'eyes' can become a phobia, I know young Lorna can't even talk about eyes. It also took me a long time to persuade my sister-in-law to have her cataract op. ( I didn't try to persuade her until after I had mine done!) Eyes are so precious and they can do such wonderful things for eye problems. Once again, good luck! xxx
I am sorry to hear that diabetes is affecting your eyes, Mary. I have just been on a diabetic DESMOND course which explained how diabetes can affect eyes, limbs, heart etc.
I would be fearful if I had to have my eyes injected but other than going blind, there isn't an alternative for this condition. Have you got someone that can go with you to the hospital? I am sure that the procedure would not be painful as a local anaesthetic is used. There is more about it here:

My partner's dad's had lots of injections for macular degeneration and he says it isn't really painful but it feels weird, and his eye is a bit sore for a few days afterwards. Don't know if that helps, but good luck with it. :)
