Title: Another tomato question
Post by: fitzsie on May 19, 2014, 18:08:07
I have 8 tomato plants in the greenhouse which at the moment are about 10 "to 15 " tall . They seem to have stop growing upwards and are starting to bush, producing flowers. Does this sound right? In my mind I would have thought they would be more taller. I have kept them watered.
Am I doing something wrong?

Much depends on what type you are growing. There are two main types of tomatoes, either determinate (bush) or indeterminate (cordon) these two types have different growth habits and are grown slightly differently. What variety/varieties are you growing?

Marmande and  Fiorintino ( can't remember how to spell it )  but both are the large varieties. Does this help Jayb, sorry to sound so vague.

Marmande are usually quite big but they do produce strong offshoots to the side. Are you pinching out the side shoots (there is a picture on a commercial site that shows quite well what is meant by this : (http://www.thompson-morgan.com/static-images/tandm/how-to-grow/pinch-out-side-shoots.jpg) )? The plant may become too bushy if you don't do that it may tend towards bushiness!!
