Title: Sawfly
Post by: Jayb on May 13, 2014, 08:42:26
Watch out, they are about! Yesterday I noticed a couple of chewed leaves on my Gooseberries, sure enough some very young Sawfly caterpillars on the underside. Horrible things, duly dispatched.
Has anyone used Nematodes on them?

I use rhubarb leaves around the base of the bushes - it works (at least is has so far!!)

I am going up to spray mine today. Rhubarb leaves don`t work for me and my plants were stripped two years ago. I used provado once last year for the first time and the plants were intact the whole year. I don`t like chemicals btw but I make a single exception for my gooseberries and red currants

I successfully used Rhubarb leaf extract spray last year for an attack of sawfly caterpillars and that seemed to work, but you need to spray almost all of them!
