Title: Rhubarb very dry
Post by: BarriedaleNick on May 07, 2014, 18:55:15
Have made a couple of crumbles with my rhubarb and although it is tasty it is very dry on the mouth (like an under ripe banana) even with sugar and some apple mixed in.  I have tried nice young shoots and they are all the same.  Is it just one of those things that happens as in previous years I have never noticed it or should I be picking older thicker stems?

I haven't managed to work out what it is that may cause it. Yes..some years it seem to happen. Last year I had the 'dry mouth' year but this year nothing at all? I can pick what ever size stalk and each plant is producing 'juicy' stuff.
Sorry...can't come up with any helpful answers..only, 'been there too'.

Cheers anyway Goodlife - I guess I just have to put up with it this year.  I usually make rhubarb vodka which will probably be ok so I may just have to make more of that!
