Title: Red and Black currants
Post by: fitzsie on May 05, 2014, 15:54:42
I have two red currant bushes and two black currant bushes which I put in the ground last year. This year the red currants are covered in leaves and fruit however the black currant bushes are looking very bare. The tips have some new leaves and a few berries starting to form but nothing on last years growth.  Such a difference in comparison. Have I done something wrong? or not done something .....

Since they are practically 'just planted' it could be just case of getting their roots in before the top growth gets going.
Have you fed them at all? Black currants are 'hungry' bushes and I find I end up feeding and mulching mine much more than any other currants. My red seem to perform well with very little added goodness.
