Title: Has anyone ever grown...
Post by: Lillypad on March 18, 2005, 09:25:22
a pea called Colossal Climbing? Apparently you grow it like a runner bean &, like a runner, it crops all summer. Being a lover of new peas straight out of the pod this sounds almost too good to be true!

I am growing Aldermann which grows 6 foot tall!  I have sown them infront of netting which is about 6 foot tall, so I am expecting peas all summer long!  Hoorah!!  So long as the mice leave them alone long enough for them to germinate!!

Whereabouts did you get 'em from EJ?

Marshalls I think.  I have seen them in garden centres also but have never looked, until peeps on hear spoke about them.  Supposidly, these tall plants should keep you in peas all summer long.  My kids will think they have died and gone to heaven!

Thanks - it never crossed my mind that you could get tall peas (if you see what I mean).  I'll try to get hold of some sharpish and give them a go.

Ah. Thanks E-J. I've done some 'investigating' and I think Colossal Climbing and Alderman are either one and the same or, at least, from the same family. I came across them on the Victoriana website  (www. victoriana. ws) but they are expensive, possibly because they're organic.

I'll give them a go - a whole season of fresh peas from just one sowing... mmm  :P
