It has always been the teaching to sterilise plant pots each year.
Is it possible that, with plastic pots replacing clay ones, this is now unnecessary?
I would, of course, wipe them over well.
I know that Ina doesn't sterilise.
My thoughts would be to at least wash them, if there was anything left in them it may contaminate your new plants.
Emma Jane whispers quietly, whilst standing in a corner............I never wash my pots or trays. I know one day I will get caught out, but to this day, I have never..... touch wood...spit and whistle....turn around clockwise 3 times...cross fingers...... never lost anything to damping off, or anything else come to that. I am way to busy to spend a day washing pots.
I'm in the dog-house with EJ :o Sowed some seeds into last years modules (actually more like the year before the year before last) this morning. They always seem to cope. I guess they do get a rotaion though as I never know what I put in them last year ::)
Jeremy
I don't wash either - pots that is! Nor does Bob Flowerdew. Life's too short & there's enough washing up in the kitchen without adding more ::)
Hoorah! Anyone fancy a beer whilst they are in the dog house with me?? ;D
You could have some of the home made cider -guaranteed to kill 99% of all known germs (and give the 100th a nasty headache).
I never wash plant pots neither. Far too busy for that me.
Planted some meconopsis yesterday. Nothing on the horizon yet but have high hopes ! ::) ;)
