Title: Rhubarb Question
Post by: Golach on March 16, 2014, 17:54:13
At the end of last season, my neighbour at the allotment (who doesn't keep his allotment in good condition), dug up some of his rhubarb and gave it to me.  The plants in question looked quite poorly to start with.  Anyway, he buried the broken roots in my allotment (I wasn't keen but didn't want to hurt his feelings either).  We know where they are (or were) and on digging the area so far, we have not found them.

I notice the rhubarb on other allotments is up quite a bit so I can only assume that these roots died and rotted over winter?

Are you sure you're looking in the right place? That stuff's almost indestructible.

If they were just roots without a growing tip they will have rotted away.

Yes LaurieUK - they were just roots, no growing tips.

We also marked the spot where they were.

Ah well.  Won't have rhubarb crumble from them.  Will get a new plant soon.
