It just so happens that this month's gardening Which, reports on their trial of beefsteak tomatoes from last year. Their best tasting ones were:- Big daddy, Corazon, Costolto Fiorentino, country Taste, Faworyt.
We grow Faworyt hubby loves 'em
this is a really hard question- a bit like asking what is the best painting but of the ones which grown reasonably productively outside in the uk I would vote for Black Krim
Any grown in real soil conditions,ripened in sunlight on the plant and warmed at point of consumption ,just a little, with a touch of rock salt (Sel de mer}
Black Krim are lovely to eat but look fab too. My other favorite from the last couple of years is the coeur de boeuf types so Ill be growing them again this year.
last year I grew a "Coeur d'Albenga" which is very heart shaped and heavily ribbed. they were really delicious. Personally I also like the yellow Ananas types that get very fat. they have a nice sweet flavour and a sort of interesting fruity tang.
I love eating this types of tomatoes just sliced, salt, pepper, and at most a little drizzle of olive oil and a few shavings of parmesan cheese...mop up all the juices with crusty bread. nom nom nom
I grew Big Daddy F1 and Corazon F1 last year, both were tasty tomatoes and did well, but I wouldn't say WOW must grow again this year!
