Title: Tomatoes
Post by: digmore on February 01, 2014, 17:40:03
Had a restless night the other night so ended up watching something on BBC 2 in the early hours.

Tomato production on a commercial scale under glass. Try and absorb these figure and the production to achieve them.

Greenhouse the size of ten (10) football pitches, cultivars the height of 5m, number of cultivars in production at any one time 250K, weight of picked crop per week 50.000kg. 52 weeks of the year.

The figures just kept coming, it would be interesting to find out how many of these greenhouses there are in this country, Europe and the rest of the world. I would imagine either Africa or China top the list in terms of production tonnage.

An incredible programme.
