Jessica planted 10, James planted 11 on 27th February 2005.
Emma Jane planted lots on 14th March.
(Kids all through and potted on already!) ;D
I sowed mine on 12th March, had two little helpers who promptly tried to drown them with gallons of water! Will they germinate after all that?
Of course they will. Hoorah for sunflowers!
Sowed mine, Russian Giant and another whose name I cannot remember on 15th March. DP
Darn. I think I gave all my seeds to the birds. Have to go see if there's any left in the bottom of the feeder.
hehehehehehe. does this mean I am in with a chance....
First sunflower seed has germinated!
No chance, EJ. There were loads on the floor under the feeder....let battle commence.
I have a few sunflowers sown and germinated.... Moonwalker and lemonwhatsit
Mine won't even see potting compost for at least 2, maybe 3 weeks.
I'm putting mine in this weekend. I'm growing Giant Single. They were phenomenal last year - not trying to put the frighteners on anyone! - so this year my friends and neighbours are going to sponsor them per foot to raise money for Children in Need.
What's all this then ? Did I miss a competition last year ? If so I wanna go ! (wails and stamps foot ). Which sunflowers are you doing. And what are the judging criterea ? I will ahve to rush off and get some seeds if it is not too late.
If you look here Baggy, all should be revealed! ;D

I will give it a go. Also get neice and sis to do some too.. (This comes form the person that can kill mint.)
Hi all, :) Count me into the competition,
I planted sunflowers today - Giant Single under pop-bottle cloches. Last year they measured 9ft -10ft (I think, as I can`t find it written anywhere) but I was told they were the tallest ever seen on my site.
Last year I didn`t plant them `til april, I also grew Deblis Mixed which I will again for cut blooms.
Once I work out where to put them I`ll be planting more,
but this year I`m leaving the lids on the pop bottles as I suspect those sneaky slugs get in through the top and eat the seedlings. Maybe it was mice?
Col
Planted various on the 18th March.....
Pretty ones and a few "Bean stalk" ones that I bought from a bloke on the way to the market...
Great deal too! Swapped them for one Cow! ;D

Please come round and kill mine. ;D I inherited it from the previous owner. That and ground elder.
sunflowers were in kite (greenhouse) and SPLAT :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
:'( :'( slugs have eaten 2 of the 3 sunflowers I had sown in pots :'( :'(
Just sown 'Little Leo' in loads of pots on my decking so hopefuly (fingers crossed) will have lots of colour in summer. ;D ;D ;D
In keeping with tradition, my Sunflower seeds disappeared again. Should've remembered from last year: plant sunflower seeds twice - first, straight in the ground for Mr Blackbird and second, in pots until well germinated and safe.
This advice will now appear in the latest edition of my magazine: "The Hapless Gardener" (circulation:1)
Anyway, I sowed some more on Saturday morning (in pots). In the afternoon I was perusing my borders - I enjoy a good peruse - when I saw 20 baby sunflowers, which I know I didn't plant. From this I deduce two things:
1.  Last year's sunflowers have self-seeded.
2.  Blackbirds don't eat old stock!
Forgot to mention, they're all Fothergill's Giant Single.
