Title: Digging Tools and techniques for the (temporarily) infirm
Post by: newspud9 on January 12, 2014, 19:48:36
My grand plan to get the plot fully dug and reasonably weed-free in 5 years has been slightly derailed following a hernia operation just before Xmas.  I'm never thrilled about digging&weeding at the best of times, but the thought of doing so (and I really need to having just had a wander around) and undoing the operation is a concern.  I just wondered if there's anyone out there who might have gone through similar and who found particular tools or techniques to be helpful - other, of course, than getting kind others to do the work.  Please be assured, all recommendations will be taken at my own risk.

Thanks for all the comments

If some areas are already clear then I would suggest that hoeing should keep them clear, and Azada is also useful I would say less use of the "at risk" muscles. Try mulch for other areas. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Weeding is easy, just spray to start with and then just drizzle ( trendies phrase ) over the rest of the season. Digging, I have a back problem (cant get it off the mattress in the morning ), I use a long handled shovel/spade, on a good day I use it as normal, but went off colour I use it by using a brick behind the blade and this acts a fulcrum and levers the soil up and with a bit of practice you can flick the earth over.
