Post by: goodgourd on November 14, 2013, 09:26:21
Daft question, but what would happen if you feed veg with bodybuilding powder, e.g. promass or the like.  Its high in protien and fats.

You will waste a lot of money, attract rats and end up with a  foul smelling mess.
Plants cannot absorb complex molecules like fats and proteins, they make them from simple nutrients (N, P and K etc + trace elements) water, sunlight and CO2. The sugars produced are then used in other chemical processes to make fats and proteins within the plant.

Protein and fat molecules are too large to be taken up by a plant.

Eventually, the powder would break down, you would be left with carbon dioxide, water and some nitrates.

If you did try to feed a plant a lot of body building  powder, in the long term it would be the equivalent of giving them bit of a water and a tiny amount on nitrogen fertiliser.

You break that stuff down naturally. Feed your plants on the product, it's free.
