Title: Fig Tree
Post by: Jeanbean on November 04, 2013, 07:21:00
My pot grown fig tree has lost all it's leaves. Is this normal or have I lost it? It was given to me by a friend and I know nothing of figs. Thanks

Yes it is normal :happy7: at least in this country. Maybe someone knows if they loose them where they originate?

They certainly lose them here, the pot grown fig tree I have lost all its leaves about 3 weeks ago, and they have since come back - we're having a very warm and dry Autumn which may account for it.

Thanks for your replies. that is reassuring. Should I put the pot in a cold greenhouse to offer a bit of protection?

Mine stays out all year and the winters here are quite cold - it is in a shletered spot though to protect it a bit from the wind.

Surprisingly, the leaves are still hanging on to my two large fig trees in the ground, East Sussex. They are Brown Turkey, and get through all our winters with occasional frost burn on tips of twigs.

I would suggest that you protect the pot with some bubble wrap. The fig itself is hardy but the roots may freeze from the sides.

Have taken all your good advice and hopefully it will spring back into life next year.
