Title: Productive weekend on the plot.
Post by: Moggle on March 14, 2005, 12:18:54
Made it to my plot both days this weekend. Had some slave labour helpers in the form of 2 of my younger brothers-in-law who are 10 and 8.

The place was a mud-pit last weekend, but this weekend, it was lovely, all the tops of the 3 beds dug over since November were lovely and broken down and fine. The soil was so lovely I almost could have rolled around in it, I was so pleased  ;D ;D I settled instead for getting a few more rocket spuds in (I know they're a bit early - tis an experiment) and attempting to dig a 4th bed.

Site secretary came over mid-digging and says bloke with the bottom half of the plot (I have a half plot) has given it up for a better position, do I want it at no cost till next year!  ;D ;D ;D ;D Well I said 'YES' of course. Apparently it was all dug over last year so won't need much this year. I think I will be putting my fruit on there  :)

Back down again on Sunday, for a couple more hours with the helpers. Got all my red onion sets in, and also put in some newly purchased turbo onion sets. Sowed a row of Ailsa Craig onion seeds too. Marked out the end of the allium bed where I will be transplanting the leeks eventually, and sowed some grazing rye to see what happens.

Did a bit more digging and a lot of weeding too. Helpers were pretty helpful all things considered. Went home very tired, and boy are my muscles sore today  :-\

Wow!  Great stuff moggle.  Loads done.  My red onions are looking very pretty in the ground, so pretty in fact the darn birds keep oiking them out!  I will get around to netting them.  And congrats on the plot extension.  Before you know it, you will be after another patch because you will have run out of room!!

Its strange...this happened to me last year..

I was offered the half plot next door to my own..it had loads of fruit bushes and I jumped at it...The 'Governor' said I was mad and for one fleeting moment (just one) I had second thoughts.

Glad I didn't change my mind...have fun
