Title: Lack of quinces
Post by: Sherwood on September 12, 2013, 18:52:25
Our eight year old "Vranja" quince has produced 3 this year. Another plot holder has managed 4. Vranja is described as self fertile, but a nurseryman has advised putting a stalk with flowers of another variety near it at the flowering season. Neither of us are keen enough on quinces to buy a second tree - so would a non fruiting quince be likely to do the job?

I have a Meech's Prolific but have never had any problems with fruit setting...

Fruit often goes in 2 year cycles, ESP when we have dodgy springs. I'd give it another year...surely they would pollenate each other if on the same site?

Neither tree has yielded more than 6 in any one year. We have a cummunity orchard on site, so will suggest they get a quince - but not vranja!.
