Title: pulled beetroot
Post by: jesssands on August 26, 2013, 20:59:03
I got this funny thing in my beetroots.  I think there are a couple more amongst them too. leaves look the same but not got the dark red bits in.
Any ideas?

I had this last year. I think some white beetroot seeds have found themselves in the packet? last year I bought really cheap beetroot seeds b&q value seeds. This year I bought Unwins and it didn't happen.

Beetroot comes is several colours.  Yellow, white, pink stripes.   Personally I like the flavour of yellow ones, though find them a little more fickle when it comes to growing.

I think the other colours have a bit less of that "earthy" taste that you can get with beetroot, but also are a lot milder.

....and there was me thinking I was the only one.  I actually thought they were turnips that had been scattered sown by my plot neighbour - they are certainly a lot bigger than the beets.
