International Kidney have yielded well but cooking properties terrible. Potatoes turned to slop very quickly after boiling, tried boiling very slowly but same result. Planted 36 Boltardy Beetroots, grew very well to begin with, thinned and watered, suddenly the whole lot bolted , grrrr
Yes International kidney can be very different from 'Royal Jersey' . When they have been left in the ground for any length of time they do turn floury.
Sorry about your beetroots - that's a shame.
Bolted? I have never seen bolting beetroots, how do that manifest itself?
I don't boil new potatoes these days but steam them instead. They don't seem to break up when steamed and they hold their flavour much better.

With a strong almost perfumed smell.
We're having to be careful with our mayan gold. Haven't got the facilities to steam them here so, 10 minutes or they mush up :happy7:
I just steam all spuds these days, just brush skins thn steam they all seem to hold up fairly well
I zap mayan gold in the microwave and then sauté them quickly in a little butter. Delicious. But you do have to be careful to pierce the skin because if they explode they make quite a mess. Tend to cut each in half even if small.
I put beetroot in the microwave as well in a glass container, no messy saucepan.
