Title: CUCAMELONS how are yours doing?
Post by: Duke Ellington on August 12, 2013, 08:08:25
Mine have made an appearance. They are hard to spot but I got a pleasant surprise yesterday when I found some. These pictures are a bit blurred as they were taken using my phone. There are quite a few on the plants which are all growing outdoors.

I was growing them and didn't know it!
We had one fruit which was very tasty but it does not seem to be setting any other fruit for now, which is odd. Hopefully it will pick up again. It's a good year for cukes so far, I had 2 big ones from my main vine and I have a lovely late vine growing which is starting to flower too.

I have had some but not many.  Loads of leaf but not much fruit -not great for the space they take up..

I agree Barriedale. I thought that each plant was going to produce loads of little fruits. At the moment there are more leaves than fruit. Time will tell. I am glad it has produced something.

Maybe you couldn't find seeds because they have many different names.  Cucamelon is really only used by James Wong.  Melothria or Melothrie and Mexican Sour Gherkin or Mouse Melon are far more common names.

Real Seeds stock them: nearly at the bottom of this page

Nicky's Seeds stock them:

Mine are flowering, a bit squashed by a vigorous tomato next to them but holding their own.  My first lot became slug food, but the second batch is doing ok.  From memory they get quite prolific a bit later in the year.
