Having struggled along with our 1995 converted ex-ambulance which we bought on impulse just over a year ago after travelling round New Zealand in campervans, we have treated ourselves to a more up to date vehicle (a 2008 Renault Master) and are off to the Edinburgh festival and beyond in a week's time.
Now we just have to sell Archie (if you remember the ladybird book "Tootles the taxi" you'll understand the name!)
How many other campervanners do we have on A4A, I wonder?
Oooh there's posh! I've got a 1994 Auto Sleepers Clubman called Helga, tomorrow she is going in for a habitation check which I know will cost shed loads of cash. The fridge has stopped working & I must be able to keep the wine chilled at the Great Dorset Steam Fair at the end of the month. Happy camping :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
Very nice too ! Have fun on your first outing.
We too are campervaners, we had a VW T25 Danbury conversion for years, until we retired, when we purchased our Autosleeper Pollensa
Here she is on a hill in the quantocks.

Very nice!
I don't know about campervanners but know that there are a few of us on here who belong to the other brigade, ie are caravanners with a touring caravan. There are pros and cons to both. However, a lot of campervanners now tow a small car behind them and I never really see the point of that!
Have a good trip to Scotland, Caroline. If you get far enough you could always sat "Hi" to Ollie!
Caravan at the moment, but seriously thinking about a campervan. Trouble is being spoilt with all the space in a caravan we will need a very large camper. Fixed bed is a must.
We borrowed one and headed over to Arisaig a few weeks ago. Not many pics of the van but here's me & the kids on a rock over there. Have a great trip and let me know if you're near Nairn!

Some of our best holidays/travels with our campervan - a high sided Reimo VW T5 (I thnk) - have been up to Scotland - wonderful scenery but a very cosmopolitan and cultured Edinburgh as well: I'm envious, Caroline! And incidentally there is a wonderful campsite at Nairn! :happy7: Not all immaculately laid out like caravan club sites, but effectively pitches in a piece of pine woodland, with facilities as well.
Poppy Mole, we had both the vehicle alarm and the fridge replaced a couple of years ago and were a bit surprised that the new fridge was by far the most expensive out of the two.
Blimey! we have enough for an A4A touring section. Just post where you will be setting up camp and we can pop in to borrow a bottle of beer cup of sugar. Caravan/ camper window sticker or a pot of chillies on the windowsill we will find you. Just a few groundrules, no teetotallers, no cheerful top O the morningers, (a grunt will suffice) and above all no nissan (spit) micra drivers.
Hi we have a T5 Reimo VW called Helga ( big Hips and German) we love it and the kids adore it too.
we have an awning too which when with the kids or camping for more than a week it makes life easier
Best seaside holidays ever.
Hello All,
I've just cashed in some investments so that I could restore my beloved MG Roadster, but I've decided to buy a van instead and have it converted to a campervan.
It should be converted by the end of September so we can set off on our travels. Where to? Who knows, but that's the beauty of having a campervan.
Gertie :happy7:

Maybe we could form an A4A campervan and caravan club.
Is anyone going to the Motorhome & Caravan show at the NEC? Being :sign4: at this sort of thing, we're looking for helpful advice/expecting to be sold useless gadgets/going to gawp at caravan porn.
I am not going there. The credit card would get too much of a hammering. But first job is to head for the caravan reversing site and get your name down. There will be loads of 'show bargains' but I find that anything with the words caravan in it are always at premium prices. So look for good ideas then when you are online look for a good alternative. eg 12 volt telly for caravan £300+, less than £100 online.
A good day out though, just watch out for those caravan salesmen, they can have you signing up for a new van, before you realise what has hit you.
Whoops! just read your other thread. Looks like the horse has already bolted. Those salesmen are going to have a field day with you :sunny:

We might as Mr PKL wants to go. Be prepared to be shocked, not just the prices! Will let you know if we go- do not know off duty yet. (Work......gets in the way of life!)
Never mind the price of the vans, what about the price of campsites! £26 per night in Edinburgh for 2 of us without a hookup (and they charged our daughter and her friend who were in a 2-man tent almost as much!).It was festival time but even so! For some reason the C&C temporary holiday site had finished a week before the festival.
Even C&C club sites work out around £23 with a hookup. However, after leaving Edinburgh and heading north, we used a few wild camping spots, so that kept the cost down.
(great website here- for £19.95 per year you can download an app for your satnav that will flag up where you can camp legally for free http://www.wildcamping.co.uk/ (http://www.wildcamping.co.uk/))
