My seeds of Rainbow Loveliness have germinated, have true leaves and now have been pricked into individual pots to flower next year. Have any of you grown this type Dianthus? The flowers in the packet look spidery which probably don't hold up well in heavy rain so I was wondering how they'd do sheltered against the house in part-sun. I've never seen these growing in yards here, but I'm trying them because the aroma is supposed to be spectacular.
I grew these this year, Grannie. They're a lovely flower and the scent is intense. I love the shapes and colours of the flowers, they have held up well in our rain and there are lots of them :happy7:

That looks like the picture on the packet, Manics. Do you think they'd do well in half-day sun?
This spot I'm thinking of gets intense heat and sun in AM, then afternoon complete shade. It is at the front door where we'd catch the aroma (hope, hope). Another option would be in a pot on the walkway which would get a little more sun...but keeping up with watering pots while on vacations is tenuous.
I've planted some in full sun and some in part shade. They both seem to have done well, even with very little watering. Lots of buds on them, too :-)
That sounds ideal! I wonder why this plant isn't better known around here. My seedlings still only have 4 frail leaves. Hope they'll get a lot sturdier before winter.
I'd never seen them before either, just saw the seed and decided to have a go. The seedlings are pretty tough, too. They have to be with me :-)
