Considering that I had an onion larvae infestation, I thought that my final onion harvest was not too bad: 3 of those plastic veg trays full of red and brown onions.
However I have noticed that many of the brown onions have incomplete skins. There are patches where I can see the white flesh of the onion. I take it these will not store so well? But I am puzzled as to why this happened. The varieties were Stuttgarter and Sturon; I usually plant some Jaune Paille des vertus which are excellent but did not have them in stock this year.
I now faithfully promise that I will no longer waste money on onion seeds, or anything related: zero germination from all allium related seed this year, including leeks.

Not quite sure why you have patches on your onions, is it perhaps the outer skins haven't yet died back enough yet?
I remember entering a veg. competition many moons ago. I always grow Stuttgarter and in the comp., I entered six which I carefully peeled the outer skin off to the first white layer. I hung them in the greenhouse until the white layer aged. I ended up with six very uniform onions and won a first.
I reckon your white skins will age OK antipodes!
