Title: Asparagus (noodle) Beans
Post by: patchworkperson on July 27, 2013, 07:17:27
Does anyone have experience of growing asparagus beans in UK? I'd heard they probably need a greenhouse. I'm thinking about next years planting & love the look of these. I have a friend in USA who grows them & I wondered how they might do with the UK climate.

Thanks.

I've grown them in a poly-tunnel, but even then to thrive and give a good crop they need a sunny year. My location might not be as sunny as other parts of the UK so a different area might do better.

Tricky here too - lush foliage hardly any flowers and the flowers did very little.  Maybe this year could be better.  Most sunshine here since 2003.  Good luck.  If they are going to work for you, this is the year.

I gave up after a couple of years. Pretty foliage, no flowers or beans. Better, in this case, to go to an Indian market area (eg Green Street near Stratford) and just buy the stuff in huge cheap bundles.

Hmmm, I think I might stick to broad beans then. Shame, they look fab & my friend loves them. Thank you all.
