Thank you all for participating in the survey.
Of the allotmenteer members here, it turns out that the largest group falls between the ages of 30 and 50. In this age group, women (32%) outnumber the men (24%).
In the age group of 30 - 40 years old, there are an equal number of males and females but in all other age groups women outnumber the men.
Overall, women take the lead with 60% to men 40%.
(All percentages are rounded off.)
Are these results what you had expected or are there surprises?
Good one Ina,
Our lottie is very male orantated only 4 women working plots on there own and two of them share a full plot but as they said women get the worse plots and give up but some of us are not moving ha ha.
We got the vote and now got the lotties ha ha that should worry the men hee hee only joking met some lovely gents down lottie and down to earth gardening advice.
Oh yes most of the men grow flowers down lottie the women dont now that I think is strange?
I think men on our lotties enjoy having women about the place. We tidy up after them for a start ;D There's generally more food and drink about as well, homebaking and such that gets shared about. Lots of the guys bring their grandchildren to the plots so it's great when there's a good mix
Out of over a hundred plots on the site, 27% of them are 'owned' by ladies in their own right plus there is almost the same percentage of couples who work the plots.
I would say that around 30% are retired males...I am not sure whether these have been kicked out of the home ;) or simply use the plots as an escape ;)
I'll leave it there
Derek
cheeky monkey ;D
Our site has 26 plots. Last year 5 were rented to women (4 age 30/50 and 1 of 70+), 8 were worked by couples (4 under 40 and 3 x 50s/ 60s) The other half are worked by men on their own and the ages range from 30s to late 70s.
As far as work rate is concerned we must remember that it's normally the women who go home and make the jam, pickles, chutneys, juices etc. etc and to that can probably be added the "absent" wives of the male plotholders as well! Of course I know from reading posts on this site that men do "cook" as well - Mr W makes a mean Bolognaise Sauce and willingly chops veg for freezing for soups etc. so I am just saying "in general" ;)
On the other hand, have to admit that even the "single" women take advantage of willing offers of help from the men when it comes to building and repairs to sheds, g'houses etc where necessary. :-\Â so let's say fair shares all round............
This survey proves more women than men are on the 'puter rather than on the plot...!
Good point 8)
Are you guys growing sour grapes by any chance?
Just proves that girls like to chat more than boys ............. even on the interweb. Where's that tin-hat smiley when you need him.
