Title: cucumbers going yellow
Post by: daveylamp993 on July 13, 2013, 16:11:07
I have grown cucumbers with great success over a number of years, this year the cucumbers are forming, grow to about 1 inch then start to turn yellow and eventually die and fall off the plant,or I pick them off and dispose of them, the plant look healthy enough, they are watered every day,not copious amounts i give them half strength tomato food once a week has anyone got any ideas as to what I am doing wrong, many thanks.

They are probably not getting pollinated.

What variety? Indoors or outdoors?

I think your problem is the feed, tomato feed is high potash or at least should be while cucumbers require high nitrogen

DavyW

What would you suggest as an organic feed for cucs. I have been doing the same as Daveylamp.

Hi Steve
I have never used any organic for cucumbers so i cant really recommend what i have not tried, also i think they are a bit expensive.
If i was to go that way then i think i would look at using a poultry fertilizer put into a 45 gallon drum so it breaks down and becomes a soluble feed.
There would be no waist as what is not put in the water can go on the ground.

Manics just brought one to mind Maxicrop Comlex has a high nitrogen content of about 7

We use seaweed and our own comfrey feed for all fruiting plants. Seaweed greens them up well. You can get organic tomato feed for your cucs  :happy7:
