Noticed on a lot of our sweetcorn what I can only describe as secondary roots emerging from about 2 inches above base of plant and going down towards the soil.
Any one experienced this or know why this is happening?
Yep, every time, we mulch up :happy7:
Its quite normal they dont affect the growth of the plant
Stabilizers...
Yes quite normal. Mine get earthed up :happy7:

No, take them off or leave them on the choice is yours.

"Take them off" .. Hey Davy... Are you getting mixed up with the suckers that grow off the bottom of the plant? You can't take the stabilizer roots off..
Sorry about that thats what i thought he was on about so i stand corrected dont remove then it can decrease the yeild.
I thought so... Lucky some of us are checking posts :happy7: :happy7:
Yeah - I agree with you on removing or not removing the suckers.. It would appear that "they" say it makes a bit of difference and boosts the growth if left on but removing wont harm the plants..
I noticed on our s/c that some of them have what looks like a another 'branch' like thing growing upwards from the base. Do more cobs grow on that too?

Jan - they are really suckers and not much else. maybe an odd babycorn now and then. Just leave them as they strengthen the plant.
Thanks Gavin.
