Title: Red onions bolting
Post by: kt. on July 08, 2013, 22:53:13
My red onions are beginning to bolt due to the heatwave.  May have to lift them and have small red onions instead of none.  White ones are fine.  Many others having many bolted this year?

A few red bolters - white onions looking good so far as were the overwintering onion set crop that has been the best ever. They are good size and only one bolter.

The cold spring did well for onions and garlic. :happy7:

Onions are ok, but my shallots have pretty much disappeared! Titchy little things, may as well dig them all up and put some squash in instead ...

More of an issue with white rot than anything else, but I grow from seed so very rarely have any bolt (a few did last year) ... going up there now  to review it (and water other things).....

All my over winter onions never came through,  200 planted and just an empty space where they were put in the ground.  My summer white ones are doing well.  Never had a problem with over winter onions until this winter.  Hopefully just a one off.
