Do i take the flowers off my onions please they are about marble size do
i let them grow? Thank you for any replys.
Unless they're a walking/tree onion they've bolted and you wont get an onion for storing. You can still use the ones that have bolted as you would spring onions, or if there's enough of a bulb there as regular onions. I've found red onions to be the worst for bolting with up to half of them bolting one year.
1/2 of my autumn planted radar sets have budded this year, I cut the flower stalks off and have now lifted them for drying. The 1/2 left will keep and the budded ones have been placed near the house to dry but I am using them as much as possible. They developed chunky bits inside leaving maybe 1/2 of the onion as usable. I have already saute`ed some and frozen in pots. Tbh they were not worth growing this year compared to the fantastic shallots that are also drying. I`ll probably do some more saute`ed onion today to use up the rest of the budded ones
re the op, yes cut the budding stem off
