I know not everyone enjoys the sunshine and heat, but last year's summer and winter was so naff I'm loving any sunshine we get. Anyone got any sunshine plans? I'm hoping for a BBQ some time over the weekend and really looking forward to enjoying a little bit of sunshine in the garden, lots of gardening to catch up on too! Hopefully squash and toms etc will love it :sunny:
Yep here is W France we have had a fairly miserable week but this afternoon the sun is coming out and it's expected to for a few days! woo hoo, maybe get courgettes and cukes really going, and the first tomatoes???
I bought some more tomato plants, looks like we might be going to have some nice weather.
Courgette plants are drooping.

On Sunday I cut down all the grass that was growing around the edges of the plot, as best I could and I watered the plants and put down a few sheets of newspaper and put the clipped grass on top of it, as mulch. Glad I did as it is boiling hot here, 30 deg. That will keep them happy for a few days. I have not been able to get stable straw as usual but have been rotting piles of weeds and grass here and then and once they are dry, I have been using that as mulch. It works pretty well actually!
We had a drink out in a pavement cafe last night, it was still really warm at midnight!
are you really hoping for first tomatoes, Antipodes??!! Or perhaps yours are under cover. Here we too have sunshine and summer at last, 30ยบ+. Tomato, cucumber and pepper plants at last starting to grow. But still only 4 little-finger-nail-size tomatoes on total of 25 plants. At least 6 of them now at least have flowers open!
But other things are growing well - potatoes are really good this year, and lettuces have benefitted from all the rain, and sweetcorn is loving the heat.
The smell of the greenhouse floor after watering on a hot day loverly or am I just odd?
