Title: Dead Gooseberry bushes.
Post by: grannyjanny on June 12, 2013, 08:33:37
I spoke to daughter yesterday & 2 of her gooseberry bushes have died. The third one is fine, all 3 were planted at the same time. Someone else on the site has the same problem. They are just twigs now. Any idea as to what it might be please?

When wes the bushes planted...or how established/big were they? Are the other dead gooseberry bushes somewhere nearby?

They were planted 4 years ago & the others are further up on the same site. The one that has survived is heavily laden with fruit.

What about the dreaded sawfly? I remember getting it years ago and the bushes just died.  Perhaps the larvae have been and come and gone.

Hi, All my soft fruit bushes died last year.  Everything was completely stripped and I am sure it was the dreaded saw fly.  I burnt the remaining twigs, and I have bought all new stock this year and moved my soft fruit area to another part of the allotment,so I hope this cures the problem. busy_lizzie
