Title: Help!!!!!
Post by: tartonterro on June 11, 2013, 20:54:26
I decided earlier this year to cut a flower bed into the front edge of my front lawn to break up the 30ft x 20ft exspance  of grass.  Unfortunately I havent due it out deep enough and im getting grass re growth.  Can anyone point me in the direction of a weed killer I can use that will kill the grass/weeds, but leave my poppies/fox gloves etc alone?

Currently im using a weedwand but its a loosing battle.

many thanks in advance.

You are thinking of a selective weedkiller but I am afraid there is nothing on the market to suit this situation.

I guess you will have to get down on your hands & knees and fork the weeds out, something we all have to do in such a situation!

Sorry I couldn't be the bearer of better news!

Instead of weedkiller Put some time aside and dig out as much grass and roots as you can. Put mulch matting down, if you can cutting an x into the fabric to allow for the plants you want to keep. Put a thick layer of woodchips or similar mulch on top. you should get much less grass in future.

You need to cut out as much as u can add a barrier to the area like weed membrane but you also need to add a physical barrier between the start/end of the grass and border like a brick at an angle or edging stone.

You can plant though the membrane and hide it with anything you choose but you need to do something to suppress the grass.

If you dont have any plants to move into the space yet then think about covering it in black plastic for now and this will help to smother the grass short term will not look great long term will help will the grass.
