Is it best to keep sweet peppers apart from hot chilly peppers when growing both plants in the :BangHead: allotment
It would only be a problem if you are keeping saving seeds from chillies grown this year. There might be cross pollination between the hot and the sweet. It shouldn't affect the taste of the pepper flesh this year. However the taste of the seeds might be affected if you like to eat the seeds. As you know the seeds can be the hottest part of a chilli. Hope this makes sense. :tongue3:

Only an issue if you're saving seed, I don't bother and grow mine about a foot apart... lable them though, it's pretty easy to confuse a Numex with a Diablo or Oxhorn, and while I won't care some older folks might find a big chilli a bit of a shock....
Before reading this post I wouldn't have thought of planting chillis or peppers at my allotment. I would keep them in the greenhouse.
After seeing this I will be planting some at my allotment as I always grow too many and others have obviously had success doing so.
Thanks for the post Dads Army
I have always grown peppers outdoors, albeit they are the last things planted. I find them to be relatively tolerant of lower temperatures, much more than aubergines, and they will fruit right through to the frosts. they have always been quite a successful crop for me.
I've tried growing in the open and in my greenhouse, but they do best outside in buckets along a south facing wall.
