Title: when to fleece leeks against leek moth
Post by: RenishawPhil on June 10, 2013, 22:11:24
We got Really bad leak moth last year.  Our leeks are getting planted this week.

So when do we need to have fleece on them to protect against keek moth?

Hello Basfordlad.

This is the RHS view:

and also on a similar problem the alium leaf miner

http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/profile.aspx?PID=643 (http://apps.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/profile.aspx?PID=643)

Basically I keep mine (leek, shallots and onions) covered from day 1 to late November. As yet, I haven't found garlics being attacked.

straight away if not done yet. I grow mine under enviromesh and plant out while scrabbling under enviromesh. It only took one attack to make me ultra cautious. Planted out 3 weeks ago and so far looking good and established
