I took a risk yesterday and planted 12 San Marzano tomatoes outside
under cloches. They hadn't been potted on into larger pots and were
starting to go a bit yellow. I've surrounded each plant with straw and
covered them straight away so I'll just have to wait and see what happens.
All my other toms are planted up in the greenhouse and doing well.
We are due another cold period at weekend.....

It wasnt the cold that done for my marzanoes last term Betty but the poxy blight killed every one..... :BangHead:
Mine are all going to be grown in the polly tunnel this year as I only lost 2 tommy plants indoors.
Good luck though !!!!!!!!

I've just taken the fleece protection off four toms I've had in tubs outdoors for about ten days - Beefsteak, Rio Fuego Nana, Sungella and a 'Bangladeshi' from Betty.Temperature last night was 8C which they don't seem to mind at all and are just beginning to set flowers.
Fingers crossed

It's so hard to know what will happen - I've got a few in a mini greenhouse and a couple of sturdy types on pots outdoors - fingers crossed!
I had to plant out my courgettes as I have to go away over the Bank Holiday weekend, and the following one I,m selling my produce at a Chutney & Jams stand at a local Community Lunch.
They couldn't stay in pots for another 3 weeks, so they've got to take their chance. I'm probably more worried about them ripped apart by heavy rain or hail, but now the forecast is giving the possibility of frosts.
Fingers crossed firmly as I need those yellow courgettes for one of my best selling summer chutneys, and they're very difficult/expensive to buy.
