Is it a shrub Hugh? Do you have any piccies of the foliage? potentilla comes to mind, or geranium, cranesbill type I think they are called! Hope this helps, foliage would be a huge advantage! DP

Cosmos....perhaps.......I have pale  pink and deep pink ones still in flower at the moment, but it's an annual, and it's cold, dark, windy and damp at the mo'.... plus Roland might be sneaking around!!!  :o ......otherwise I'd go out and take a closer look!!!!  ::)   ;D

No, dont grow either Cosmos or Gardenia, but thanks for trying. It is in an album of Clematis, but those long filaments make me doubt it. And where on earth did I photo it with a black background? I am stuck.

I have a small white Clemmy on tough almost oak shaped leaves tnat is an evergreen.desperately trying to remember it's name...............think it is avalanche,,,,,,might be worth looking up!

 Another white evergreen is "Armandii", tried it ,but didn't survive the severe winter up here!

DP .that's a beauty!! but bet it wouldn't take kindly to our winters!

Good point Diane! Had forgotten about good old armandii! Love mine, if only I could get my avalanche to bloom as well as this lovely! (Have you tried mulching it and covering it for the winter? Well here is armandii, don't think it is this either, mind you looks closer!

Hope I'm not being a bit dense but could it be a hibiscus.  Just thinking of the long stamen.  Could be! :-/

I to have taken flowers with black backgrounds, taken late in the evening with the flash going off gives this effect.
do you have a date when you took the photo?
I know some flowers with double and semidouble flowers will throw a single flower.

How about a white form of evening primrose ( oenothera) ?
Would explain the dark background !!!
Or something similar whose flowers open up in the evening!!  ;D
Otherwise, why take the photo in the dark? or were you after a good contrast?

I thought possibly cranesbill but white ones almost always seem to have more veining. Could it be a shrub - philadelphus, eucryphia? Without seeing the back of the flower, mirabilis looks possible, specially if taken when dark. Certainly, the stamens look a bit evening primrose-like but white? Lewisia- nah, not enough petals. racking my brains tho' as I am sure I know this! Fairly sure it is not a clemmie either, the stamens are usually a giveaway there. Abutilon vitifolia album?? Mallow? Hellebore? nope, guessing wildly now.

yep, me too with the teenage son who owns the PC. Bearing in mind that I have to squash in amongst the festering crisp packets, concrete socks, 3 week old dinner remains, overflowing ashtrays, mountains of D&D stuff and shapeless mounds of bedding which could contain 3 pals for all I know ::) - I amazed I can stay online for so long.

It was to take it to the Nursery and ask why it was white when the label says .Pink. Not really complaining though it is a beautiful flower. Thank-you once again.
