Post by: bluecar on May 03, 2013, 14:59:11
Hello all.

Do any of the following need feeding at any stage and if so what?

Parsnips

Carrots

Swede

Turnip.

As always, I look forward to your replies.

Regards

If your soil is reasonably good..none of those should need any additional feed.
I tend to sprinkle tiny amount blood fish and bone meal for swede, parnip and carrot bed few weeks before sowing but after that it is just water. Turnips don't like additional feed at all..they are quite quick crop and produce only leaves and no bulbous root if they are in too rich soil.

I agree with Goodlife if your soil has been well fettled prior to planting out further feeding is usually not required!

But if not you might get a few answers here;

If it does then:
BFB
BFB
BFB and a bit of lime
BFB

I always put a bit of BFB in with nearly everythign except tomatoes (cos if you give them nitrogen in anythign they get big and sappy and don't flower...)
A bit of lime maybe for the swedes, they're brassicas after all but then I have never been particularly successful with them over the years... odd years have been good, I think they need more looking afte rthan I'm willing to give a brassica.....
