Title: hops
Post by: gertie50 on April 20, 2013, 11:16:10
Hello all,

I was offered several bags of spent hops from a brewery yesterday, but I'm not sure if I dig them in or put them to rot down in the compost bin. Any ideas?

Many thanks,
Gertie.

Use them as a mulch and or in the compost bin.

As Kev says, they're great as a mulch.

I find that if used as a mulch they tend to dry out and blow away.  However, I can vouch that they are brilliant for breaking down horse manure in a compost bin. I had some field droppings in February and the ones that got mixed with hops are now ready to use whereas those without the hops are still a bit ripe.
