Now we've had some sunshine, the seeds in my cold greenhouse are finally sprouting- all except the parsnips. I sowed them 4 weeks ago in loo rolls and covered with a plastic lid, but nothing! am I being too impatient, or should I give up and start again? And yes, it was this year's seed.
Parsnips do take a while..., I'm not expecting to see mine for a week or two yet and they're in a heated unit....
Parsnips take about a month
They are slow to germinate but why not check one?
I,ve preshooted old seed (2010) on damp tissue paper, not expecting to see any growth at all .With in 6 days they all had tiny tails, this was done on my warm kitchen work top .some has been planted in to loo rolls and bio gradeable pots and some has to wait .
Thanks, everyone. After I'd sown them I remembered that last year I chitted them before sowing.
Lovely sunny day and the first few have appeared- their ears must have been burning!
My parsnip plot is covered with black weed fabric as I am hoping to raise the soil temperature over the next couple of days, when sun is forecast. They like around 10+ degrees soil temp to germinate. I`ll probably sow them monday or tuesday, weather permitting. I bought the seeds only this week and got gro sure ones as I have used `dead` seeds before now and it is frustrating to find that nothing comes up in a month
Your parsnip seedlings must have e.s.p, caroline. Extra Sensitive Parsnips! :happy7:
Good to hear they are coming through at last.
